The movie, Gangs of New York is set in a 1860 New York where a young man is desperate to revenge the murder of his father from the gang leader. However, the main plot is not as interesting as is the historical background of the movie.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day Lewis and Cameron Diaz are the lead cast and it is directed by Martin Scorsese.

Why AMC is running the flick almost back to back for the reseason that movie was nominated for 10 Oscar Awards in Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director categories. For surprise of us and many movie lovers, the movie came down from the nomination pedestal empty handed. This returning empty hand does not mean that movie was not capable of achieving any Golden Statue; it is nonetheless story of America’s coming of age in the backdrop of the story of a man who wants to settle some old scores.
Jay Cocks, Steven Zaillian and Lonergan cooked up the story for the movie from the Herbert Asbury book but they were not able to cook the broth up to the winning standards of Oscar.
The Gangs of New York tells the subplot story of two gangs competing to gain the control of slums in the lower Manhattan, Five Points. The killing of Priest by Bill the Butcher sets up the main plot as Amsterdam (Son of Priest) comes with a motive to revenge the murder of his father from Bill the Butcher.
