The former agent’s conclusion to toggle sides was said to be the motivation for the character played by Matt Damon in the hit film ‘The Departed.’
Damon takes part in a Massachusetts State Trooper detective who brought his Mob links with information. Through a two-month trial in Miami, Florida, a panel of judges heard that Connolly, 68 was on the Mafia payroll getting money from infamous Mob head James who ran the Winter Hill gang in Boston in the 1980s.
FBI’s second most wanted escapee Bulger after Osama bin Ladenand is being sought for involvement in 19 Murders. Bulger is the FBI’s second-most wanted fugitive after Osama bin Laden and is being wanted for taking part in 19 murders. It came in the notice of the court that Connolly would supply his Mob Connections with tip-offs about plice attack and leak the names of informants.
He was condemned because of the 1982 murder of businessman John Callahan, whose body was found in a car at Miami Airport.
Telling about his mob connections Connolly explained that 45 years old Callaghan was setting him up to give proof against the notorious Winter Hill gang in Boston.
In a scene from The Departed Matt Damon with Jack Nicholson. Connolly is understood to have stimulated Matt Damon’s character in the film Prosecutors had inquired that Connolly be given a word of mouth, saying the 30 years minimum was not enough as Connolly ill-treated his badge.
When the trial of Connolly was next to close in Miami, Florida, Judge Standford Blake, said: Mr. Connolly, the jury has found that you flawed the badge that so may wear proudly.
It was felt very sad for an FBI agent to go to the dark side. Sad day for any judge or any humanity to see. Connolly retired from the FBI in 1990, but he is by now serving a 10 year prison term for his Federal racketeering conviction for protecting Bulger and Stephen Flemmi.
