Jose Hernandez spent an American astronaut, was born in French Camp, California on August 7, 1962. In his early years Hernandez used to work in summer vacations with his family in different California farm fields, to pick vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes and sugar beets. His family was Mexican migrant worker and they use to work in the fields seven days a week till November when they would go back to Mexico for the Hernandez and his siblings to go to school.
School was essential to the Hernandez family, even though Hernandez did not learn how to communicate in English till he was 12 years old, he and his three siblings all graduated from high school and attended college.
Hernandez had the vision to become an astronaut since his childhood. Hernandez completed his B.S Electrical Engineering in 1984 from University of the Pacific and MSC Electrical & Computer Engineering in 1986 from University of California-Santa Barbara and joined National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2001.
Astronaut Jose Hernandez is departing to make his first journey to the space. Next week, he will be along with the astronauts when NASA’s shuttle Discovery, will launch the global Space Station. It would be a great triumph for the man who spent his early years in picking vegetables and strawberries as he belongs to a farming family that migrated from Mexico to America.
