Magnitude 7.9 Earthquake Strikes Indonesia

Seismologists and local TV reports said that a sturdy undersea quake measuring at 7.8 on the Richter scale struck off the western coast of Indonesia’s Sumatra Island late Wednesday afternoon, flickering dread among inhabitants, but there were no urgent news of wounded.

Indonesia’s National Meteorological and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said that The earthquake was struck about 57 kilometers south-west of Pariaman in West Sumatra province around 5:15 at a deepness of 71 kilometers.

BMG said in the statement that another 6.degree reverberation followed the initial quake about 22 minutes later on.

According to news Lots of buildings were destroyed and people were seen rushing here and there out of their houses and toward hill area.

A tsunami observe for Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and India was started by the pacific tsunami warning center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration but it was canceled it soon.

The warning center said that the earthquake produced a tsunami just less than one foot far above the ground.

A tsunami generated by a scale 8.0 trembling killed around 86 people in Samoan island and Tonga On Tuesday. Tsunami waves flounced across a broad swath of the Pacific Ocean and killed lots of people destructing or immersing villages.

Around 86 people were confirmed deceased after Tuesday’s tremble strike near American Samoa, together with 24 in American Samoa, 55 in Samoa and 7 in Tonga.
