In his first year of draft in 1965 he became the Eastern Rookie and won Gruen Trophy and that was just a start. Terry Evanshen has also the privilege of winning Canadian All Star for 7 times, he won his first Outstanding Canadian Award in 1967 than in 1971 he won the award for the second time. In 1984 he was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame.
An accident in 1088 nearly took Terry Evanshen life, when a car crashed into his jeep; injuries he received were so vicious that a minister was called to carry out last rites but against all odds he stayed alive, but a month later when he came out of his comma, due to a brain trauma all his memories of his past up till the crash were lost. After his accident he struggled in his life greatly eventually becoming a motivational speaker.
A book written by June Callwood The Man Who Lost Himself: The Terry Evanshen Story, was came into market in 2000, which won numerous awards a movie was also made on his life in 2005. Canadian football League approved a trophy in his name in 1994; Terry Evanshen Trophy is awarded to the outstanding player of the year in the East Division every year.
